Hey everyone! Tudo bem?
First of all I would like to thank you for all the lovely comments, Facebook messages and emails I received from so many of you. I was really surprised to get such positive, encouraging feedback. Muito obrigada to say it in Portuguese! :)
It has almost been a week now since the day that I arrived in Brazil. I am really happy to be here, but I have to say that I have had my ups and downs already. It is very challenging not being able to express myself, I do understand a lot of Portuguese, however speaking is another story and I get very impatient with myself easily. Being surrounded by native speakers makes it twice as hard, but my boyfriend's family is a great support and I am studying a lot of vocabulary, so I am sure I'll get there eventually.
So this is how I spend most of my days: Having breakfast and lunch with native speakers practicing my listening skills, learning lots of vocabulary and watching Youtube videos on Brazilian pronunciation throughout the day. I also try to go running daily to get some excercise. We have a really nice park nearby called Parque das Aguas, that is perfect to go running. Just scroll down and you will find some photos of it.
There's lots of palm trees, birds, beautiful flowers and a little lake in the park. Muito bonito!

Besides the Parque das Aguas, I also enjoy running along the river that flows through Resende. It is called Paraiba do Sul and is about 1200 km long flowing through 3 states: Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.

So far, so good! I think I will be quite happy here, but let's see where our road will take us. Now I gotta go back to studying Portuguese. Ate logo!

ReplyDeleteI am so surprised that you decided to move to Brazil! Also, you are now living very near my hometown (Guaratingueta, in the paulista area of the Paraiba valley). I know Resende, and it is a very nice town.
Anyway, I want to say that I am really happy for you, and I already love your new blog.

DeleteI am surprised that I moved to Brazil myself actually. About a year ago I would have never thought about living here. But that is one of the nicest things about life, you never know what is going to happen. :)
Yeah, Resende is not bad, I like it here. Maybe I will get a chance to explore your hometown one day too. Let's see! I looked it up on Google Maps and it really is just around the corner.

My friend, I'm going to start writing in Portuguese heheheheh as we discussed in Canada, you have different "accents" in Germany, and WE DO ALSO HAVE IT IN BRAZIL heheheh so, as you are going to speak "carioquês", my "gauchês" would sound quite "different" to you heheheh but I hope it will still help you with the crazy portuguese :)

Bueno, eu estou aqui a mais de um ano e nem perto de me sentir apaisanado como no meu Rio Grande! Imagino que tu deves estar te perguntando: -Mas tu já não falas alemão?

Como tu disseste, é difícil viver cercado de viventes nativos! Acabamos por nos atracar num entrevero com nós mesmos. A tal da língua parece que trava e parece que nunca vai sair nada. No meu caso o pior é conviver com gente que fala inglês o tempo todo, o que me deixa numa inércia barbaridade! E cada tentativa que faço no tal alemão, é um pealo daqueles hehehehe mas... "de tanto pealar, se aprende a doma!". Te digo a verdade desse dito mais pra frente heheheh
Acredito que tu vais aprender minha língua antes que eu aprenda a tua, mas um dia quero falar contigo em alemão e quero que tu me respondas em português com aquele sotaque carioca bem carregado hehehehe e talvez nós consigamos bater um papo em português e alemão pra sentirmos os tais sotaques alemães e brasileiros. Vai ser tri bom hehehhe
Tchê... por hora, te desejo um baita sucesso aí! Que tu aprendas português e consigas aproveitar momentos baguais que virão! :)

I understood almost everything of what you wrote, without the help of a translator. :D There were only a few words I wasn't sure about and my boyfriend helped me understand those. So ok, I had a little help... Mais um pouco! kkk But I am still working on my Speaking and Writing skills, so for now let me write this response in English. ^^
I really hope so too! That one day we can have a German-Portuguese conversation. Let's work on that! :)) Maybe I will visit you when you are back in Rio Grande do Sul one day! I think I would really like the South of Brazil. I have seen some nice documentaries about Santa Catarina and Rio Grande. When I get homesick and can't afford a flight to Germany, I will just go to Blumenau for a few days. haha
Thank you so much for your nice words. They really touched my heart. I wish you all the best in Germany too and I imagine it is not always easy, but I am sure you will succeed and return to Rio Grande with an awesome degree. :)
